Garages

(left 1930's garage right recent garage built in 2004)

The garages of today seem to be more of a multipurpose garage versus the earlier garages of the 1930 before WWII which were basic looking and had little estatic of appeal to them. Not designed to be attached to the home and be part of the physical appearance of the home. This was the practical garage when american culture only considered the car for practical uses not recreation uses. But the garages of today are more orientated to family lifestyle or a larger lifestyle where people have more that one car, and they also use some of their garage as storage space, and sometimes a space of recreational use. The houses that are built today treat the garage as an extention of the home no longer a seperate area just for the car with no eye appeal. Garages built today are usually designed to look the same as the home so you can tell what garage belongs to what home. Garages are becoming an integral part of the house. Garages are being properly floored instead of simple concrete floors. Garage storage has been upgraded to proper cabinets to meet extra storage needs in the house.

Cape Cod Style homes

The distinctive look of the Cape Cod Style home usually includes which are the heavy trim detail around the front entry door and the half-round transom window above the front door. Also there are usually that look the same planted on both sides of the door way, sometimes the windows are of equal number or on one side there will be one more than the other. Another apparent feature of this style is that it feature two or more small dormers on the roof and are usually one to two floors.

sitcom suburbs

I have a virtual tour of the neighborhoods around millersport highway between eggert and bailey if anyone wants to take a look

The houses that make up the nieghborhoods around Millersport highway between Eggert road and Bailey Avenue do seem to fit along the the conformed lines of a sitcom suburb. The peom little boxes does fit the description very well, maybe even a little to well its like reynolds was walking along these neighborhoods when writing this peom. “Little Boxes”

Malvina Reynolds (1962)

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,1
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
Listen to this on YouTube under “Little Boxes Claymation” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJjE-UtqQdU

The houses have the same one level slanted roof, with the front grassy lawn the small entrance doors and small windows. Some of the houses might have minimal differences in the color but thats about it there all made out of the same material ( or boxes made of Ticky Tacky). These are very family oriented nieghborhoods where they all look the same, it even gets a little De JaVu when reynolds talks about how all the kids go to the university or how all the people play on the golf course considering that this neighborhood is really close the UB and the Amherst golf couse which are like just up the street.

tour of Europe vs America

the European tour that i looked up that is advertised to Americans was a tour of France, Italy, and Spain. In this tour it advertised for people to experience a variety of cultures and countries and a visit of classical sites, and Old Europeans art, architecture and medieval castles. this is a list of the tour highlights.
Paris sightseeing includes views of the Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame Rome sightseeing tour includes the Roman Forum, Circus Maximus & visits to...
Lucerne sightseeing includes a stop a the Lion Monument Venice sightseeing
Visit the Principality of Monaco Visit Rothenburg
See the leaning Tower of Pisa Visit Heidelberg and view the castle
Florence sightseeing includes Signoria Square and Cathedral & Santa Croce Basilica

While when i visited a wedsite that offered tours of America is found one tour that was named Autumn colors a offered a tour of New Englands color and spectacular. In this tour they offer up Your fall foliage adventure begins as you travel from Boston along the scenic shoreline to Maine. Here, experience the incomparable view of Acadia National Park from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, and dine like a local at a New England Lobster Bake.
this is a list of the New England tour highlights
Visit Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor See the home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid, site of the "Miracle on Ice"
Enjoy a Wildcat Mountain Gondola ride at Pinkham Notch View the Rockefeller Empire State Plaza in Albany
Enjoy a presentation on the ecology of the North Woods in North Conway Visit the Norman Rockwell Studio and Museum
See Vermont's great agricultural heritage at Billings Farm and Museum at Woodstock Visit the towns where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired in Lexington and Concord
Lake Champlain Tour Fort Ticonderoga

When it comes to comparing the two tours it is alot more obvious that when a European is going on a trip to America the tours that are being offered to them are tours that are themed on the natural lanscape of the woods, mountains, wildlife, and national park. While on the other hand when tours are being advertised to Americans on Europe they offer up tours of European monuments, old castle and cathedrals. So it becomes a little apparent that when Europeans think of America they think of open land and forest and agriculture, not of old religious or national monuments. I think these tours are somewhat missing the mark when advertising tours about america we also have big cities with mounents that are incredible like the Empire state building or some of the sites in Washinton D.C. The French qaurters of New Orleans, the city of Las Vegas, and chicago, and we also offer up the natural open landscape like whats offered.

architectual styles of Buffalo

The first house is an example of Bungalow style with its tapered porch post, and its Tie beam, king post, and knee braces

Then their is the Greek revival style home with its Pediment roofing, tympanum, tall first floor windows, attic story window, Entablature, and of course its colomns

The colonial revival style home here can be recognized by its glass panel door, strait window heads, board siding on cheeks of oversize dormers, shingle roofing, and bay windows

the Octagon style home with is Cupola, Low pitch roof, and encircling veranda/ porch

This home is right around the corner from me with all the other big expensive homes in that area but i dont know what type of style home this is maybe be a Georgian but not really sure

panoramic view of the metropolis

The first group of pictures that i will be comparing between their panoramic views are London and New York City. The first two pictures are of New York, while the other two are of London. As you can see their is some small similarities like the crowding of large buildings probably businesses, but when it come to contrasting the differences the buildings in London are a lot shorter that the tall buildings in New York. Also the City landscape in New York looks a-lot more crowded than the panoramic view of the city landscape of London. As you can tell the cities are the business epicenters of both populations. I also think that the tall buildings in the London landscape seem to be in the center of the city while in New York their tall building which are most of them are just scattered throughout the whole city.

The Second group of panoramic views of metropolises are of Rome v.s the city of Chicago. In the pictures of Rome the buildings are obviously a lot older looking, they also seem to have a bit of a religious feel to them. Some of the buildings in Rome also have a Dome sort of roofing. While on the other hand Chicago is a lot more modern with tall buildings and lots of crowding.
